What Is My IP Address
Your public IP address is the address websites see when you visit them. It is shown above as soon as the page loads.
You can also look up the rough location and network behind it.
Your public IP address
Checking…
Please note: To show your address, this page asks two outside services (ipify and ipwho.is) and your browser sends them a request. We do not store the result.
How it works
When you open this page, your browser asks a small public service, ipify, to report the address your request came from. That is why the address can be shown even though this site stores nothing about you.
An IPv4 address looks like four numbers separated by dots. An IPv6 address is longer and uses letters and colons. Many connections have both, and the one you see is the one your browser used.
The “look up details” button asks a second public service, ipwho.is, for the country, region, city, time zone and network provider linked to the address. Location from an IP address is approximate. It usually points to your provider’s area, not your home.
Worked example: Why the address might look wrong
If you use a VPN, a work network or mobile data, the address shown belongs to that service, not to your home router. That is expected and is a quick way to check that your VPN is working.
Frequently asked questions
What is an IP address?
It is a number that identifies your connection on the internet, a bit like a return address on a letter.
Is my IP address private?
It is shared with every site you visit, so it is not secret. It does not reveal your name or exact home address by itself.
Why does the location look wrong?
IP location data is approximate. It often points to your provider’s hub, which can be in another town.
Why is my address different from the one in my router?
Your router has a private address on your home network. The public address is the one the wider internet sees.
How do I change my IP address?
Restarting your router can give you a new one with some providers. A VPN shows the VPN’s address instead.
